Analog Photo Today is an independent digital magazine covering Film, Cameras, Darkroom, Photography and Art. The readership runs from someone loading a thrifted rangefinder for the first time to printers who know exactly how their fiber paper behaves in a warm tray. It is part of VUGA Network, a group of independent digital publications published in the United States.

How We Work

Most of what appears here is a guide or an explainer, built from rolls actually shot and negatives actually developed. A stock comparison means the same scene on Portra, HP5 and a cheap gray-market emulsion, metered identically, developed in the same tank. Reviews written from spec sheets do not run, and forum lore about push processing gets tested before it gets repeated. Prices, dilution ratios and development times are printed because they are the useful part.

What We Cover

Film covers emulsions on the evidence of exposed rolls: grain structure, latitude, color rendering and how each stock holds skin tones, including discontinued stocks, expired batches and budget alternatives. Cameras is written for people buying, fixing or living with one — shutter accuracy, meter drift, light seals, viewfinder brightness and realistic service costs — across 35mm compacts, rangefinders, SLRs and medium format. Darkroom is the chemistry desk: developer choice and dilution, fixer capacity, agitation rhythm, enlarger alignment, dodging and burning, and washing fiber prints properly, whether the setup is a bathroom or a dedicated room. Photography News reports discontinuations, reissues, price changes, lab openings and supply problems in short, dated entries, and Business News explains why a roll costs what it costs — manufacturing capacity, chemistry supply chains, lab pricing and secondhand valuations.

When a development time in a published guide turns out wrong, the guide is corrected and the correction dated, because somebody will follow it with their only roll of a discontinued stock.
